CROP WALK PROGRAM

Facilitator: Tony Craddock, Pinion Advisory

10am-10.30am: Meet at Starick’s Randell Road block to inspect PBA Highland XT lentils and PBA Wharton peas.

Both were dry sown and inoculated and are the first pulse crops sown on that land. Facilitator Tony Craddock will guide discussion on agronomics and the potential for lentils in the Murray Plains.

10.45am: Meet at the National Variety Trial site on Milendella Road, funded by Grains Research & Development Corporation (GRDC).

Trial manager Brendan Kupke, SA Research and Development Institute, will step through the GRDC NVT Wheat and Barley plots as well as the Time of Sowing Wheat and Barley Trial, funded by SA Grain Industry Trust.

Noon: Meet at the Pasture legume choices, establishment and persistence for the Murray Plains trial on the corner of Randell Road and Western Boundary Road, funded by SAGIT.

Trial manager Richard Porter, AgXtra, will step through the pasture options grown in the trial. This is a new project building on the demonstration plot in last year’s crop walk.

1pm: Lunch, sponsored by Ronco Motors, at Luke and Ryan McGorman’s machinery shed.

2.15-3.15pm: Ryan and Mel McGorman talk through technology use in their feedlot and how social media has helped with marketing their business. RDA Murraylands and Riverland will talk about the projections for growth in the region’s domestic grain market with new livestock developments on the horizon.

3.45-4.45pm: Meet on Western Boundary Road near Reedy Creek bridge to see Anthony Cooper’s GM canola InVigor R 4022P and new Commodus CL barley.

4.45pm – Finish
