  • SARDI will present results from the wheat and barley National Variety Trial, funded by the Grains Research and Development Corporation.
  • Farmers and business coaches Tim and Cheryl Freak, Coomandook, will share their insights on how they ramped up their sheep enterprise in the past few years, doubling their stocking rate to 6DSE/ha and consistently retaining 30-45% of their turnover as profit.

Meet our guest speakers: Tim and Cheryl Freak

Tim and Cheryl farm 3850 hectares, north of Coomandook in 350mm rainfall, including cropping wheat, barley, oaten hay and lupins and running about 3000 ewes. They farm in conjunction with a young couple, Arran and Anika Loechel, who joined the operations side of the Freak’s business in 2020. Cheryl works part-time as a coach with Farm Owners Academy, an organisation dedicated to helping farm businesses become the best they can be. Tim is currently transitioning the daily operations manager role to Arran and will become a coach with the academy during 2021.
